Fellowship of Spirit

What is the "fellowship of Spirit" that Paul wrote about in Philippians?  "If there is any encouragement in Christ, if there is comfort of love, if there is FELLOWSHIP OF SPIRIT..."

This is the fellowship that John wrote about - "What we have seen and heard we declare to you that you also may have fellowship with us; and our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ."

This  spiritual fellowship is only possible when we come to that place when "we no longer know anyone after the flesh."

Knowing others after the flesh is what breaks fellowship; strife, envy, jealousy, pride and enmity are all works of the flesh that cause men to bite and devour each other.

Carnal men can not have fellowship of the Spirit; they will always have contention and division.

True unity in Christ is not possible in carnal men; strife and division reveal that their fellowship is of the flesh, and not of His Spirit. Only those living by and keeping in step with the Holy Spirit can become one in Christ.  Their unity is possible because they are being filled with the Spirit of wisdom and revelation of the love of God in Christ Jesus.

This wisdom from above is first and foremost pure and peaceable, gentle, flexible, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.   Believers who are led by the Spirit in this way are called the "sons of God".

Their fellowship of Spirit empowers them to become "peacemakers" and Jesus said -"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."

Only those believers who are led by the Spirit will be able to live in peace with other believers, for the unity of the Spirit is preserved through the bond of peace.  Those who have fellowship of Spirit will seek peace and pursue peace with all men.  Their forbearing spirit will become the testimony they are known by.  Through the fellowship of Spirit, believers become non contentious, peaceable, as they cease to blaspheme men; instead they demonstrate true meekness towards all men. These believers have learned that Christ is meek and lowly of heart; filled with His meekness, they will inherit the earth.  They have beaten their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; they refuse to study war any more.

They serve the Prince of peace, preach His gospel of peace and bring forth the peaceable fruit of His righteousness.  They are empowered to do all of this through their fellowship with the Prince of Peace - the fellowship of His Spirit!"
