He will guide the MEEK

The Psalmist gave us the key for having a life guided by the Lord.

Having an expert guide who knows the way is the best way to keep from getting lost. What is required on our part to be guided by the Lord?

The psalmist wrote - "He will guide the MEEK in judgment; the MEEK He will teach His way."

Jesus could say follow me because He was being guided every step of the way by His Father - for He was MEEK and lowly of heart.

In order for us to be guided by the Holy Spirit, we must do what James wrote - " In MEEKNESS receive the implanted word which is able to save your soul." Since MEEKNESS is so crucial for our being guided by the Lord, just what is it?

The word comes from the famous war horses of the Greeks - they were MEEK. They were strong, high spirited, and fearless, but very "controlled" by their rider rather than their own impulses. Their natural power and speed were fully submitted to the will of their rider. They had been trained to RECEIVE the guidance of their rider rather than follow their own natural impulses.

This is the key to following the Holy Spirit. We must deny ourselves (our own natural desires) and RECEIVE IN MEEKNESS the specific guidance that the Holy Spirit will speak to us.

We must fully submit our own thoughts, taking them captive unto the obedience of Christ - and then the truth that we RECEIVE IN MEEKNESS will set us free. The opposite of MEEKNESS is having a stiff neck - like an unbroken horse that won't yield to its rider.
