Beware
of the "Doldrums"! Have you ever heard this term?
The "doldrums" were the ancient sailor's nightmare;
an area near the equator where the wind just dies. Calm
is not always good! A heavy schooner without wind is more than
just idle, it's helpless! Having no power or ability to steer
can become a grave danger. Without wind to propel it forward,
an idled ship can be caught in powerful ocean currents and end up
shipwrecked on dangerous reefs.
Believers can enter their own "spiritual doldrums" whenever the Holy Spirit has been quenched or grieved. This vulnerable spiritual state has set many a believer adrift on the powerful currents of the world and has resulted in numerous souls shipwrecking their faith. If we are not experiencing the power of the Holy Spirit over a prolonged period of time, we will inevitably succumb to the "PULL-U-tion" of the flesh! Beware the spiritual doldrums! Be continually being filled with the Holy Spirit.
