Spiritual Neuropathy

"Blessed are those who mourn...."  for "there is a time to mourn."   Failure to mourn over grievous matters may be a sign of "spiritual neuropathy."

Neuropathy is a term used to describe  loss of feeling or sensation, especially the ability to feel "pain."   There are various causes that can affect this physical phenomenon: stroke, Diabetes, blood clot, Spinal cord injury, Leprosy, and more.

Lack of ability to feel physical pain always raises an alarm; so, why are we not alarmed over an apparent numbness to spiritual pain?

Lack of mourning over problems in the church may well be a sign of a spiritual pathogen.

Do we mourn over contentions and divisions? Do we mourn over broken relationships and the poor testimony this brings upon the name of Christ?

Lack of feeling may be a sign of "apathy" - a condition of having no  feeling or emotion.

Those who are well connected to Christ, the head of His body, will experience His pain and mourn over the matters that grieve Him.

If we have lost our connection with Christ, we lose our sensitivity to things of the Spirit and will blindly pursue our own agenda with minimal or no concern for those things that trouble our Lord.

Mourning when it is a time to mourn is evidence of  a healthy connection to the heart and mind of Jesus Christ.  Those who mourn when it is time to mourn are blessed!  They will be comforted!

Those who are caught up in the affairs of the world will show little concern for the affairs of the church.   Lack of "pathos" is  "a" (no) + "pathos" (passion) "apathy!"  Apathy is like spiritual Leprosy - a loss of pain sensation that usually begins in the members of the body  furthest from the heart!   A good indicator of sound spiritual health is a sensitivity to the pain Jesus Christ is experiencing over His body.

Sensitive hearts will feel His pain and mourn with Him - they will be comforted and they will be blessed !
