Sympathy or True Salvation?

How does Paul identify "those who will creep into houses and make captives of gullible women?"  How can we recognize them if we miss the key indicator Paul gave us? The key is found in this unique description - "having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof."

Power is the only genuine proof of the true gospel - "the gospel is the POWER of God for salvation to everyone who believes."

The power of God FREES men from  sin -  this is the true salvation!   Men who have a form of godliness without freedom from sin are denying the power of godliness by the sin still present in their works.  Why are these men able to gain entrance into the homes of gullible women?  They offer them something very appealing to people laden down with sins - they offer them SYMPATHY!

"PART" of the the gospel (a half truth) is the sympathy of Jesus towards sinners, but the "FULL Knowledge of the Truth " does what Jesus said it would do - IT SETS MEN FREE from slavery to sin!

These men gain a following among people laden down with sins by sympathizing with  them in the guilt and shame of their sin; however, they stop short of the full knowledge of the truth,  or they would lead them out of the grip and slavery of their sin.

Freedom from sin and victory over sin are sound doctrines of the true grace of God that struggling sinners will turn their ears away from.  They are doing so in droves today, and heaping to themselves teachers who are more sympathetic and realistic about their persistent sin and defeat.

These men appear more real and compassionate.  Why is this? The message of freedom from sin will make men still bound in sin feel ashamed and condemned if they do not mix it with faith.

The promise of total deliverance from sin will seem just like the giants of Canaan to all who hear the gospel but fail to mix it with faith.

We  must not be ashamed of the gospel, for it is THE POWER of God to FREE men from sin - that's what salvation means!  It is not our fault that this power is only for those who believe - it has always been this way with God!

Sympathizing with sinners without full deliverance from sin is nothing more than HUMANISM in a form of godliness that denies the power of Christ! The full truth of the gospel is that the same grace that forgives men for sinning, sets them free from slavery to sin and enables them to live soberly, righteously, and godly as overcomers in this present age.  Don't be ashamed of the gospel - it IS THE POWER OF GOD - but only to those who BELIEVE more than they sympathize!
