There is a way to glorify our Lord that is far greater than the common practice of proclaiming the contrasts between our sinfulness and Christ's sinlessness. Jesus revealed this when He spoke of the way the Spirit of truth would bring glory to Him - "He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you." We might think that expounding upon our own wretchedness while exalting in our Lord's righteousness is the way to set Jesus apart as uniquely holy in the eyes of men; but, Jesus and the prophets spoke of a different way that God intended to show Himself holy. "I will show myself holy through you" - NOT apart from you!
Jesus said the Spirit of truth would glorify Him by taking from what is His and "making it known to you." When the grace that is in Christ Jesus becomes so known TO us that it begins to shine THROUGH us - men will see OUR GOOD WORKS and GLORIFY THE FATHER! For example, most wives already know that Jesus is perfect and their own husbands are far from perfect, but that will never impact them as much as seeing the grace of Christ being lived out through their husband's daily life. As the Spirit of God causes the grace-filled divine nature of Christ to touch others through us, those who experience this will be gripped by the similarity they see between our lives and Christ - NOT the contrast!
The glory of Christ was never meant to be put on display like a treasure in a museum - only to be marveled at from a distance. GOD FORBID! What makes His glory so dynamic is that it was designed to be experienced by all who know Him. May we begin to glorify Jesus NOT merely by explaining how different He is from us, but by our being transformed into His same image from glory to glory. Men already know that we are more like them than we are like God - this fact does not impress them.
When they see the power of Christ make us more like God - and less and less like them - they will begin to take note of us like the Sanhedrin took note of the apostles - "when they saw the boldness of Peter and John...and realized that they were just untaught, ordinary men - they TOOK NOTE that these men HAD BEEN WITH JESUS! If we walk as Jesus walked - men will take note of us in the same way.
