Clothed with the Righteousness of Christ

We have no righteousness of our own, but we are clothed with the righteousness of Christ!  Amen! shouts the thunderous chorus of grateful sinners- yet do we really understand what it means to be robed with His righteousness?

What happens when we put on The Lord Jesus Christ?

What garment did He wear?

Christ means "the anointed".

What was Christ anointed to be?

Our High Priest!  That means His robe is the garment of the High Priest.   Is this the garment that we are wearing?   If so, are there any special instructions for those who are robed in this garment and anointed to be set apart to minister as priests unto God?

Yes indeed!  Here are just a few of them:

"They must be holy to their God and must not profane the name of their God."  "He must not make himself unclean, even for his father or mother."  "He must not leave the sanctuary or desecrate it, because he has been dedicated by the anointing oil of his God."  "He must not let his hair become unkempt or tear his clothes. He must not enter a place where there is a dead body." "The woman he marries must be a virgin. He must not marry a widow, a divorced woman, or a woman defiled by prostitution, but only a virgin from his own people."

Are these specific laws still in place?  NO!  Yet - these laws do make something very clear - having the robe of the High Priest and being anointed to set us apart to God INCREASES our responsibility to live holy and to seek to be without spot or blemish by perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

What should be abundantly clear is that those who are careless about personal purity because they claim to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ don't fully realize what they have been clothed with.  Being anointed and set apart unto God ALWAYS increases the responsibility to live a spotless, blameless and holy life!  Yes, it is true that only Christ righteousness can make us  holy.  What is NOT true is that being clothed with Christ removes or  lessens our responsibility to live righteously, holy, and blameless.  If  we are priests set apart unto God - we are to live like priests!
