Knowing
others BY THE SPIRIT truly allows the ministry of reconciliation the
opportunity to flourish. Knowing others BY THE SPIRIT allows love to
cover a multitude of sins. It also allows others to "forget what
lies behind."
When we regard others for who they WERE yesterday,
we may not be knowing them by the Spirit of mercy today.
When we are
remembering what God has intentionally forgotten, we are not knowing
others by His Spirit, for the Lord says "I will remember their
sins NO MORE."
Knowing others BY THE SPIRIT means NOT reckoning
the evil they may have done to us.
God was in Christ "NOT
RECKONING men's trespasses against them." Knowing others BY THE
SPIRIT leads us not to hit the total button too soon. Instead of
concluding a matter by the present "facts", the love of the
Spirit works in us to "hope all things" and to "leave
room for repentance."
This leads us to know others through the
same spirit of grace and hope we have received through Christ's love,
rather than by the Spirit of the accuser of the brethren who is very
capable of remembering every fault and very willing to repeat it to
many people for the purpose of "pointing the finger" at
sins rather than covering over them.
Knowing others BY THE SPIRIT
promotes unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace rather than
the carnal mind that is decisive through prejudice, insecurity, and
strife.
Knowing others BY THE SPIRIT makes us ONE BODY with diversity
rather than many factions with differences
